A walk through the centennial S'Agaró

S'Agaró: A Luxury Destination on the Costa Brava

Although we have evidence of S'Agaró since the arrival of the Romans, the origin of the town's tourist core, as we know it today, began in 1916 when the Ensesa family received a piece of land on the deserted Sant Pol beach as payment for a debt. This piece of land, seemingly isolated, gradually transformed into one of the most exclusive destinations on the Costa Brava, thanks to the vision of the Ensesa family and architect Rafael Masó.

The Origin of the Tourist Core of S'Agaró

The initial concept was that of a summer resort designed for the bourgeoisie, with a modernist style and privileged views of the Mediterranean. The first building, Senya Blanca, became the Ensesa family's residence. Other houses followed, along with a church, plazas, and, of course, the famous Camí de Ronda.

The Camí de Ronda: The Most Picturesque Walk

One of the greatest charms of S'Agaró is its Camí de Ronda, which connects the beaches of Sant Pol and Sa Conca. This two-kilometer walk along the coast is a true feast for the senses. On one side, the stunning views of the Mediterranean accompany walkers at all times, while on the other, the majestic mansions of the area adorn the landscape, creating an atmosphere of luxury and serenity. It’s a walk that allows you to enjoy the harmony between nature and classic architecture, while breathing in the local culture.

La Gavina: An icon of luxury

One of the symbols of S'Agaró is the Hotel La Gavina, originally conceived as a small hotel with 11 rooms, which opened its doors at the end of 1932. Although its size was modest at first, the growing demand for luxury tourists forced renovations that, in 1953, transformed it into a five-star luxury hotel. La Gavina quickly became a haven for numerous Hollywood stars such as Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, John Wayne, Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra, Liz Taylor, and Orson Welles, as well as artists like Salvador Dalí and writers like Josep Pla. This legacy has turned the hotel into a place with an aristocratic and exclusive atmosphere.

A perfect balance between luxury and nature

S'Agaró has established itself as a luxury destination on the Costa Brava, offering a unique experience. Here, elegant architecture and lush vegetation blend perfectly with the comfort of the most exclusive facilities, providing a space in total harmony with the landscape. In this idyllic corner of the Costa Brava, one can walk along the Camí de Ronda, relax on its crystal-clear beaches, and of course, enjoy fine dining and luxury with locally sourced ingredients at places like the iconic Hostal La Gavina.

Conclusion

S'Agaró is not just a tourist destination; it is a symbol of the luxury and exclusivity of the Costa Brava. A place that, since its origins with the Ensesa family, has managed to combine the natural beauty of its landscapes with a sophisticated environment that continues to attract visitors from all over the world. If you're looking for a place where luxury blends with nature, S'Agaró is the ideal spot to disconnect and enjoy the best of the Catalan coast.
