La nuit de San Joan s’approche. En effet, pour la majorité des personnes, la nuit du 23 juin est le coup de départ de l'été.

 

L'origine de cette fête est païenne mais l'Église catholique la fait coïncider avec la célébration de la naissance de saint Jean-Baptiste.

 

C'est une fête en l'honneur du soleil qui, ce jour-là, est à son point culminant: on dit qu'à midi un bâton dressé ne fait pas d'ombre.

 

En Catalogne, la fête de Sant Joan est l'une des plus importantes de l'année, familles et amis se réunissent pour passer ensemble la nuit la plus courte de l'année.

 

Les traditions et les rituels qui entourent cette nuit sont différents dans chaque territoire, mais le feu est l'élément commun. Les feux de joie, les feux d'artifice et les pétards sont les protagonistes de la nuit. Se baignant également dans la mer à minuit, les plages sont donc également remplies de monde en cette nuit spéciale.

La délice typique de cette fête est la Coca de San Juan, ce dessert est à base d’une brioche recouverte de bonbons et d’une graniture de crème, ou de chantilly et décorée de fruits confits.
